For any dog lover: http://www.deviantart.com/view/11454716/ Be warned, VERY graphic images of the result of cruelty to dogs bred to fight each other - and very honest about the "problem" with pitbulls.
I may not be a fan of dogs much (I prefer cats myself) but I love all animals. Yes, I eat meat, but that doesn't mean I don't love the creature any less...I just thank it for its flesh, and eat. But turning a creature that can be so full of love, and making it one so full of hate and anger...makes me want to kill someone...
forcing two animals to fight for human entertainment...just so wrong. Those that do so, should be forced to fight each other, for no valid reason, just fight to the death. I wouldn't get any entertainment out of it, but it would be a kind of cruel and dark justice. Far more justice than they are giving these animals.

There are som breeds that tend to be agressive with other dogs, and maybe pitbulls are among them, but I honestly think virtually any dog, if raised and socialized the right way, can be a good companion. You'll occasionally meet a dog who's meanspirited, or overly agressive, just as some humans are, without being socialized that way.
There used to be a pitbull down the street from my mother's place. I met him first when he was a pup...and he was a sweet little thing then (though he DID chew on my coat when I said hi)... a year later he was untrustworthy. Not because he was a pitbull, but because he'd never been properly trained or cared for, and he was allowed to run about. Personally, I say "don't ban the dogs, ban the damn owners" when cases like that turn up.
